Scipion’s Shariah offering
Scipion’s Shariah offering is an acknowledgement of increased interest from many Shariah investors in Trade Finance and Africa as alternative investment strategies.
The global Islamic finance industry has expanded rapidly in the last few years, now standing at $2.4 trillion. Islamic financial institutions are increasingly looking to diversify their market share away from traditional assets and have instead turned their focus to income-producing opportunities in private markets since many of the big banks have retreated from this space due to regulatory constraints linked to the Basel Accords.
In Africa meanwhile, dozens of countries have introduced legal and regulatory frameworks to promote the development of Islamic finance products in their respective jurisdictions. This is a reflection of the Middle East and Africa’s long history of inter-continental trading dating back to the 8th century.
